About Us

The MS Mother and Birthworker Community is a product of the MS ACE Project. The Mississippi ACE Project is a project of Magnolia Medical Foundation, with funding from the WK Kellogg Foundation. The MS ACE Project, aims to support healthy infants and mothers by providing access to services, building capacity, and providing education regarding doulas and breastfeeding. Research shows that doulas can improve health outcomes for mothers and their babies. Research also shows that breastfeeding also improves health outcomes for mothers and their babies. Therefore, this community aims to create a community to support more access to necessary services for healthy mothers and babies. 

Infant and maternal health deserve action on every level. By establishing the MS Mother & Birthworker Community, we aim to create a central space for Mississippi mothers to search and identify birth workers in their community and access resources to support safe and healthy mothers and babies. This Community is also intended to increase the capacity of birth workers to serve their communities. 

We hope this community will: 

• Increase Mississippi mothers’ access to birth workers such as doulas, midwives, and lactation professionals
• Increase the visibility of Mississippi birth workers (such as doulas, midwives, and lactation professionals) in their communities
• Support a stronger relationship between the medical community and the birth community
• Provide necessary resources to support mothers in healthy decision making

Magnolia Medical Foundation (MMF) is a community-based organization founded in 2009 to provide preventive health services (health screenings, health education, promotion, chronic disease management services, i.e., cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke) to high risk and underserved individuals and communities.

MMF’s vision is to serve as a quality and assurance resource that addresses the social and environmental determinants of health. MMF strives to provide excellent customer relations, top-tier and compassionate services, and a cost-effective preventive health plan that will improve health outcomes and ultimately begin “Building Bridges to a Better Quality of Life”.
